Alpha Public School Budget Information
Information regarding the 2013-2014 School Budget was presented in a Public Budget Hearing at the March 26, 2013 Board of Education Meeting.
On Jan. 17 Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation that permits communities to move the annual school board member election to November while eliminating the vote on a district’s proposed budget that is at or below the tax levy cap.
Under the law, there are three ways a community can move the election:
(1) a board of education can pass a resolution;
(2) the municipal governing body or bodies can pass a resolution; or
(3) voters can pass a public question that is presented to them at the November General Election.
Both the Alpha School Board and the Alpha Town Council passed resolutions in 2012 moving the school board member election to November. The vote on the 2013-2014 school budget, being kept under the tax levy cap, has been eliminated.
